Did you know that if you do eye exercises that these will actually improve your vision? So you have no need to wear glasses or contact lenses.
Well it's true.
A renowned eye doctor, named Dr Bates of the New York Eye Infirmary, made a breakthrough. After years of research he found that most eye troubles could be cured and your vision improves naturally. So you have no need to wear glasses or contact lenses.
So, what did Dr Bates discover?
Well, he had a theory that the eye adapts to varying distances. It doesn't do this by changing the shape of its crystalline lens. It does this by changing the shape of the eyeball instead. So your eyes are able to focus on varying distances because of the way the eye muscles and the way they pull on your eyeball.
When your eye focuses on distant objects the pull or tension of the four recti muscles is increased and the eyeball is flattened out, shorter from front to back, longer from side to side.
On the other hand, if you want to look at a closer object the oblique muscles increase their tension. This squeezes the eyeball. This means it becomes deeper from front to back and shorter from side to side.
And as long as you keep the muscles balanced your eyes function normally.
But if you get eye strain caused by bad eye habits then the recti muscles tighten. The result? You become farsighted.
On the other hand, if the oblique muscles tighten, then nearsightedness occurs.
So if we can avoid tension in our eyes then we can see perfectly. And the best way to avoid tension in our eyes is through eye exercises.
Dr Bates created a series of eye exercises. These exercises re-educated the eye muscles. So the eyes went back to normal ways of movement and rest.
So how successful were Dr Bates' eye exercises?
So how successful were Dr Bates' eye exercises?
Well, hundreds of people were from two years old to ninety years were able to take off their glasses and have normal sight again. People with cross eyes straightened them. Astigmatism, farsightedness and nearsightedness vanished.
But what are the exercises you do to improve your eyesight?
There are three exercises you can do. And every healthy eye does them. They are blinking... Centre its attention... and Shift.
Let's look at blinking first. Blinking is essential to normal eyes and sight. When you blink a fluid from your lacimal gland is washed down and over the eyeball keeping the eye moist. But that's not all. Blinking relaxes the muscles of the pupil so any tension is reduced. Blinking also allows the recti muscles to move as well.
Now let's look at central fixation. This is when your eye and mind work together to focus on the same area at the same time.. When you look at an object you should localize your attention. Focus it on one small area and not elsewhere.
If you grasp this fact of focused vision and mentally close your sight to a large area then you will have grasped the habit of central fixation. And this makes your eyes more efficient.
Finally there is shifting. This is when you constantly shift your vision. If you do not shift you will stare. And staring is one of the worst and most common forms of straining.
Shifting should be as frequent as possible. The time required for an image to register on the retina about 1/150th of a second allows for greater frequency of shifting. People who look at one area too long will benefit both in vision and in eye comfort.
